Is a script-controlled shutdown of a hardware appliance possible?
A script-controlled shutdown of a hardware appliance is not possible at this time.
For a virtual appliance, for example when used with ESXi, the following scenario is possible:
When the ESXi host is accordingly configured, the host will automatically shut down all VM's.
The VMWare Tools need to be installed on the VM's.
On a REDDOXX appliance, the VMWare Tools are automatically installed.
The host needs to be configured to shut down the VM before it shuts down itself.
